PROGRAMME
TWAEEQ3 – Preserve and develop the sporting vocation of the site.
AL AZIZIYAH – Create a landmark in the district and a city destination.

AL AZIZIYAH

Al Aziziyah park will be the main green space within the surrounding area. Therefore, the idea is to create a large and secure green refuge at the centre of an active neighbourhood. Following the concept of the glade, the park will be densely planted along its edges and will open up in two distinct glades at the centre of the park. The centre of the park will be the active heart of the neighbourhood. It will be separated in two different areas : the «sport glade» with space provision for sports, new active trends, play areas, and the «cultural glade» with specific facilities (mosque, municipal square, museum,…) and provision for large events. The topography can also be used for play or sport opportunities. A fitness trail will connect the park and both glades through circular paths.

TWAEEQ 3

The idea is to emphasize the existing sporting vocation and encourage new active trends (skate, scooter, bikes) but also to provide quiet gathering areas for families. A work on cut and fill will help identify this park as a main destination at both the district and city scale. It will highlight the sport area and occasionnal event space by placing it in a proper setting inspired by the concept of a green arena. The work on topography will also create an efficient buffer between the two main spaces : the active side with sport fields, event space and the passive side with gathering, play and fitness areas. A trail going up the landform will offer views on the park, towards the neighbourhood and the wider context.
